The Rules
Drivertek International,
Trucker of the Year
Competition.
Purpose
The world wide transport industry has a very serious problem.
The world is rapidly running out of cheap oil and the industry has a logistics nightmare to deal with, as we make the transition from one form of energy to another.
The Transport Industry has always solved its own problems and this one, I feel, is no different.
Just, a lot more difficult.
I have always believed that Truckers were great problem solvers and that every one of us has got an opinion on everything. So with that in mind, my purpose is to focus attention on the above issue, and allow anyone with an opinion of merit to contribute in any way possible to solving it.
Therefore this competition is based on three of my old Dads favourite sayings:
Where there is a will, there is a way.
Everything has to be based on common sense.
Keep it simple.
Format
During the course of the year in which the competition runs, I will ask one hundred questions from my “really good questions” basket and post them on the competition page under the Trucker of the Year Competition Banner.
Once you have entered as a competitor in the competition, your task will be to answer the questions to the best of your ability. All the answers of each competitor from each Country will be registered against their entry details. In the first stage competitors will only compete against others from your own Country of Origin. In the second stage all Country of Origin winners compete for the grand prize and the title of Drivertek International trucker of the year. You must answer to the best of your ability every question I raise, but if the winner of each years event becomes difficult to judge due to the quality of your entries, then I will have to think of something else.
(See rule two, and the entry conditions)
At no time during the competition will all the answers received be posted on the website, this should stop you changing or developing your opinions during the course of the competition by reading others thoughts. However you can still change your own answers to any question you have already answered at any time up to the close off date of 9am 9/11/06 New Zealand time.
Entry Conditions
Open to anyone and everyone, however if I decide to throw in a B-Train driving assessment to sort out the winner.
So be it. (See rule two)
All contestants must be registered and entry fees paid to be eligible.
Competition topics.
Hardest first: how to resolve the looming oil crisis.
But (See rule two)
Rules: only Two
- The competition will run from 9 September to 9 September each year,
- I’m the judge and the judge’s decisions will be final.
2a There will be more as and when required, see rule 2
How it will work:
Every entry from each country in the world will go into the country of origin, Trucker of the Year Competition. When each country of origin winner is chosen, then all finalists will compete for the title of Drivertek International World Trucker of the Year Grand Final. I will be writing a series of articles during the course of the competition on this issue (posted on the Articles page) which will indicate what I am thinking on the subject, at the time of writing. You are more than welcome to agree or disagree and neither approach will sway the judge’s final decision on who becomes the winner. Your answers must be well thought out, persuasive in content and limited to no more than one hundred words for each answer.
Entry Fee
We initially wanted to make the entry fee Zero for all contestants, but we do have operational costs to keep the competition running and at this time we do not have enough major sponsors to cover these. We were also very keen to offer a substantial prise to the winner of each countries Trucker of the Year and a major prise to the Drivertek International World Trucker of the Year Grand Finalist. So after the operational expenses have been covered the prise pool for each country will grow depending on the number of entries from that country.
Now this may make winning the Antarctic Trucker of the Year competition very easy (not much competition) but also, not very profitable for the winner.
It could also make winning the UK, USA, AUS or NZ Trucker of the Year competition much more difficult, but a lot more profitable for the winner.
Either way all country of origin winners goes into the grand final and are contenders for the grand prize pool.
Therefore the entry fee is set at NZ$10.00 with 50% going into the pot for each country of origin winner and 50% of all entry fees going into the World grand finalists prise pool.
Additional Prizes
We hope there will be additional prizes, but these will totally depend on sponsors.
They will be for the Country of Origin winner and the runner up in each country that the sponsors wish to sponsor, and also the Grand Finalist in the Drivertek International Trucker of the Year.
Any new prises we attract from these as yet undiscovered sponsors and the current prise pot of each Country and Grand Finalist prise pot will announced in the News section of the web site.
So sharpen that competitive mind of yours and let the game begin.
