# 39 The warrior way
When you look at the cards that life is currently dealing you, most people’s reactions are either positive or negative and sometimes both at the same time.
When I was in my formative years I read this quote by Don Juan in Carlos Castaneda’s book, A Separate peace it goes like this.
“The difference between a warrior and an ordinary man is that a warrior sees everything as a challenge, while an ordinary man sees everything as either a blessing or a curse.”
And I thought at the time “that will do me” and I have tried to live my life that way ever since, because it’s the challenge in life that adds the spice.
Okay so let’s look at this cross section of human life individually and in relation to the current fuel price rises:
The ordinary man who sees this as a curse is most of us, our lifestyles are changing and we cant afford those little luxuries anymore because where having to pay more for everything, hell some can’t even afford the basics and where not happy about it.
Some don’t even like to think about it.
The ordinary man who sees this as a blessing would be your fuel company shareholders and land owners with lakes of oil under them (massive profits), Governments (taxes see profits) and anyone else who’s seen this as an opportunity to benefit.
The warrior looks for the challenge and tries to turn every curse into a blessing.
My challenge is to turn every single one of you, into a warrior.
Last month, you looked at what I’m doing about this escalating fuel price/shortage problem and this month I’ll look at what I think you can do about it.
First, turn the spot light on your own situation, have a real close look at your own fuel costs. How far you’re getting on a tank of fuel, for a start, next find an additive that really works, has been tested and is used by the best, last but certainly not least, get some quality training from someone who really knows what they’re talking about. It will take you a lifetime to learn the skills needed to be truly fuel efficient and why would you bother when you can be shown the basic tricks of the trade, in a day. After that, practice, practice, practice if you’re not getting the absolute best from the driver of the vehicle and you’re the driver, who are you going to answer to?
The cost is “cheap as chips” compared to the savings in fuel costs and will quickly pay for themselves, because of it.
Lift your head up, see what’s happening around you and start making some long term plans. Short term plans are a pain in the bum because they take just as long to formulate, as long term plans and they only last a short time. They also need to be ultra flexible to cope with the day to day running of your life. Long term plans are much more stable, but you still do need to work to the plan every day and adjust it if necessary.
That will do for a start and check out the advert below if your finding rising fuel costs hard to cope with, it may be the best thing you ever do, from your wallets point of view.
Maybe you could enter their competition, even if you don’t, it may make you think about it.
Watch the newspapers and TV news and try to get a feel for what’s happening in the world and how it could affect you. Try and see through the PC bullshit and other smokescreens.
Take on a warriors approach to life, and remember the seven P’s
Prior Preparation and Planning, Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
But then, that is “Just an old trucker’s point of view”.
