So by now we are all coming to terms with rising fuel prices, and your trying to figure out a way to control the effect on your business or your wallet.
The worldwide transport and logistics industry has a problem and it’s a big bugger.
You have got to get some serious advice on how to limit the effect of the repercussions, which will ultimately follow.
There will be a recession, size and duration, unknown.
Fuel prices will continue to rise, and not necessarily slowly.
Everything currently on the market for sale, everything, is going to go up in price.
People and trucking companies in particular are going to get hurt if they are not prepared.
If prepared, opportunities will be everywhere.
This current oil crisis and WW4 will not come to an end anytime soon.
So what can we do about it?
Get yourself some serious Fuel Efficiency advice and quality training for both yourself and your drivers.
Start talking about this subject with everyone that you come into contact with.
Good ideas need to be inspired, and everyone has an opinion.
Enter the Drivertek International Driver of the Year awards and have your ideas challenged, the issue of the current oil crisis is the sole reason for this competition (hardest question first) and good ideas always need to be scrutinised.
It is a driver competition with a difference as its open to everyone all around the world; it does not necessarily require you to be a driver and may not necessarily involve driving anything.
What it will require you to do is “think.”
If you feel strongly that this competition has merit, help sponsor it.
If your not part of the solution, your part of the problem.
Put your inventers cap on and start thinking how to cheaply power your own world, now.
Or you could work together with a small group of friends and enter the comp as a team. It doesn’t matter.
Email this same challenge to everyone you know, when everyone is working on it, we’ll solve it.
Don’t worry that the end of the world is nigh, it is not, the world is simply going through an energy transition. The World has done this before: First we had Wood and this heated man and lit up the night. Then wood started to get scarce and expensive and so started the Wood to Coal transition, this was found to be an excellent fuel, the trouble is, there are too many of us living in close confines and coal smog became a big side effect.
Then oil was discovered and the internal combustion engine came into its own, and the Coal to Oil transition evolved.
Power stations still run on Coal, but oil is a much, much cleaner fuel, and many more times more efficient.
The problem is, all fossil fuels and wood contains Carbon (CO2) and this and other gases are causing the atmosphere to heat up the planet.
The dreaded “Greenhouse” effect.
So oil is running out and it’s becoming a lot more expensive to generate the energy required to supply you with the lifestyle you desire.
This leaves you with some options:
1. Pay more, do nothing.
2. Pay more, and wait for someone else to sort it out.
3. Pay more, and whine about it not being fair.
4. Pay more, and start doing something about it.
I believe one of the fundamental beauties of the Capitalist System that we live in, is that if something becomes hideously expensive, both in cost price and environmental damage done, then the market will find a better alternative.
What we need to remember is that we are the market and what the market truly desires will eventually become reality.
However one of the fundamental problems of the system is that the market is incredibly difficult to wake up and is easily conned into staying asleep, often until it is too late.
However, that is “Just an old truck driver’s point of view”
